ISLAMABAD: Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the Parliamentary Party Leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the Senate, has strongly condemned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its efforts to disrupt the oath-taking process ahead of the Senate elections.
Despite these efforts, Siddiqui vowed that opposition members in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would take their oaths as planned.
In a statement shared on his official X handle, Siddiqui accused PTI of engaging in “unconstitutional and undemocratic behavior,” drawing comparisons to the party’s previous attempts to derail the no-confidence motion that resulted in the ousting of Imran Khan on April 10, 2022. He asserted that such tactics would ultimately fail again, as they did in the past.
Siddiqui also pointed out that PTI’s current actions reflected the party’s past conduct under its founder, Imran Khan, referencing the controversial roles played by Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri and President Arif Alvi in attempting to subvert the parliamentary vote. He criticized PTI for not respecting democratic institutions and instead fostering a culture of street protests, riots, and violent demonstrations.
He further questioned PTI’s approach to engaging with opposition parties, asking, “What kind of understanding is this when opposition members are being obstructed from taking their oaths?”
He concluded by pointing to PTI’s history of undermining parliamentary proceedings, suggesting that the current strategy is a continuation of efforts to disrupt and delegitimize parliamentary processes.
