Three arrested in extortion-related firing incident

KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has arrested three individuals involved in extortion and a recent shooting at a restaurant in Surjani Town. Two of the suspects were injured during a police encounter.

One of the arrested suspects, Sabir, was wanted for a murder and extortion case. During questioning, he admitted to participating in a shooting at a local restaurant as part of an extortion attempt. Sabir also revealed that his associates were planning another shooting at the same restaurant.

Following this information, an SIU team intercepted suspects near KDA Flats. As the suspects, traveling on motorcycles, were identified, they opened fire on the police. In the exchange of gunfire, two suspects, Afiyan Rafi and Waiz, were injured.

The suspects are connected to a previous shooting incident at the restaurant where a rickshaw driver, Muhammad Aleem, was killed, and five others, including women and children, were injured. The group had also been involved in another shooting at a different restaurant.
