Pre-monsoon rains expected from June 20, authorities on alert

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted pre-monsoon rains across various regions of the country from June 20 to 23, with brief breaks, providing relief from the ongoing heatwave.

The forecasted weather will bring dust storms, rain-wind, and thundershowers, with some areas potentially experiencing heavy rainfall and hailstorms. Moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are expected to affect the upper and central parts of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is anticipated to reach the upper regions on June 20, contributing to unstable weather conditions.

The PMD has issued warnings about the possibility of urban flooding in low-lying areas, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Islamabad, during heavy rain. Farmers have been advised to adjust their crop activities accordingly. The public, travelers, and tourists are urged to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone areas. Authorities have been advised to remain on high alert and take necessary steps to prevent any adverse outcomes.
