Woman attempts suicide over taunts for not having a son

JARANWALA: A woman attempted suicide by jumping into a canal along with her three minor daughters after facing constant taunts from her husband and in-laws for not having a son.

Passers-by witnessed the incident and immediately alerted Rescue 1122 staff. Two youths, who were bathing in the canal, along with rescue personnel, managed to pull the woman and her daughters out of the water and provide them with medical assistance.

The woman, identified as Kiran Bibi, 38, the wife of Muhammad Afzal from Jaranwala, had three daughters but no son. Her in-laws and husband reportedly taunted her daily, which led her to take such a drastic step.
