FO seeks AGP’s opinion on Dr Aafia Siddiqui case

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has requested a legal opinion from the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) regarding the government’s assistance in the US court concerning the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Dr Siddiqui is currently imprisoned in the United States.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC), presided over by Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, heard the case regarding Dr Siddiqui’s release and repatriation. During the proceedings, the court was informed that the Foreign Office had sought legal advice from the AGP’s office regarding the possible involvement of Pakistan in the US court case.

The Attorney General’s office requested a 10-day extension to submit the government’s response, which was granted by the court, giving one week for submission. The hearing has been adjourned until June 25.
