MULTAN: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out inspections across Multan, Vehari, and Khanewal districts, targeting dairy shops, sweet and bakery production units, departmental stores, and other outlets to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety standards. As a result, six food units were shut down until improvements were made.
The authorities confiscated a variety of substandard goods, including 115 litres of adulterated milk, 60 kilograms of expired food items, 14 kilograms of monosodium glutamate, 15 litres of expired soft drinks, and 10 litres of rancid oil.
In various locations such as Hussain Agahi, Muhammadi Wala, Lutfabad, and Bosan Road, four milk shops were fined Rs65,000 for selling adulterated milk. A spice grinding unit in Mati Tal was penalised Rs40,000 for selling low-quality dried onions and maintaining unclean machinery. Additionally, a hotel near Bahadurpur Chowk was sealed for using loose spices in food preparation.
A warehouse in Jahanian was closed due to a washroom being present in the storage area, while two sweet production units in Khan Town and Adda Peerowal were shut down due to unhygienic conditions and insect infestations.
