LAHORE: A severe heatwave continues to scorch much of Pakistan, with temperatures reaching alarming levels across the country.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the heatwave is expected to persist until Thursday, June 13, with temperatures in many areas remaining 4 to 7°C above the seasonal average. Citizens are urged to avoid direct sunlight, particularly between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and to stay hydrated to prevent heatstroke.
The heat is especially intense in the plains, with cities like Bhakkar recording the highest temperature of 50°C. Other areas such as Dera Ghazi Khan and Noorpur Thal saw highs of 49°C, while several cities in Punjab, including Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin, reached 48°C. Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan are also experiencing extreme temperatures ranging from 45°C to 47°C.
The heatwave is compounded by high humidity levels, with Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Sargodha recording dangerous heat index levels. Authorities have issued warnings for vulnerable groups and advised caution during the ongoing heatwave.
