ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, led by Riaz Fatyana and accompanied by MNAs Rana Qasim Noon, Syed Javed Ali Shah, and Malik Anwar Taj, has returned to Pakistan after completing its official visit to the United Kingdom.
During their visit, the delegation met with several members of the UK Parliament, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, members of the House of Lords, as well as the Lord Mayor of Birmingham.
The committee also engaged with media representatives, think tanks, Pakistani and Kashmiri community members, and government officials to brief them on the latest developments in the Kashmir dispute.
The delegation emphasized the international legal obligations India faces, citing the UN Charter’s Article 1 and 25, as well as UN General Assembly Resolution 1514 (1960) on the granting of independence to colonial countries and people.
They also pointed to the 1948 UNSC resolution on a referendum in Kashmir and other UN Covenants passed in 1966 concerning civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. These resolutions, they stressed, make it India’s responsibility under international law to honor the right to self-determination for Kashmiris.
The delegation visited and addressed concerns at Pakistani consulates in Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester, and Glasgow, where they received a positive response to their efforts.
