PM Shehbaz promises serious action on KP issues, forms special committee

PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday assured Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur that the federal government will take KP’s concerns seriously by establishing a special committee. This committee will consult with KP leadership and local elders to address key provincial issues.

Speaking at a tribal jirga, Shehbaz said the committee will assess KP’s challenges and may recommend parliamentary actions if needed. He highlighted the overdue review of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award and announced the first related meeting for August, noting KP has received Rs700 billion over the years with funds still being released for police training and equipment.

Acknowledging KP’s sacrifices and patriotism, the prime minister praised the province as “beautiful and great” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to security and development despite ongoing violence in KP and Balochistan. He condemned recent Indian attacks and lauded the military’s strong response.

Shehbaz emphasized national unity and global recognition of Pakistan’s progress after recent foreign visits. He also urged consultation among provinces to expand water storage in response to India’s water threats.

Earlier, CM Gandapur demanded the federal government fulfill all promises to merged tribal districts, refrain from imposing taxes on ex-FATA and PATA regions, and immediately release funds for internally displaced persons. He called for an end to drone strikes causing civilian casualties and insisted on the prompt transfer of KP’s NFC share, stressing the province’s rightful claims.

Gandapur noted political differences have been set aside for national unity, with all Pakistanis united for defense and sovereignty.
