RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has declared himself the patron-in-chief of the party amid internal disputes, while Barrister Gohar Ali Khan will remain the party chairman, sources said Tuesday.
This development comes as PTI announced plans for a nationwide protest campaign aiming to topple the PML-N-led coalition government and reclaim what it calls its “stolen mandate.” The date for the protests has yet to be announced.
After meeting with Khan at Central Jail Adiala, PTI Chairman Gohar told journalists that Khan intends to personally lead the protest movement. All instructions regarding the protests will be conveyed through Omar Ayub, according to Gohar.
Gohar dismissed rumors about his removal as chairman, emphasizing the importance of maintaining party leadership. He also confirmed that responsibility for upcoming protests will be distributed among various individuals rather than solely falling on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The chairman added that Imran Khan remains open to dialogue and has kept the option of negotiations with the establishment alive.
