Rain, hailstorms expected across upper and central Pakistan from May 27: PMD

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, windstorms, and hailstorms across upper and central regions of the country from the night of May 27 to May 31, with intermittent breaks.

The department stated that moist currents are entering these regions, and a westerly wave is expected to move into the upper parts on May 28, triggering widespread weather activity. This will likely result in thunderstorms, heavy rain in isolated areas, and hailstorms in several districts.

Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, and the Galliyat region are among the areas expected to be affected. In Punjab, the impacted districts include Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and others.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also see weather activity in areas such as Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Bannu, and Waziristan. Light to moderate rain with windstorms is expected in parts of Balochistan and South Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Sahiwal.

The PMD has warned that strong winds, dust storms, hail, and lightning may damage infrastructure, particularly in upper and central parts of the country. Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities accordingly.

Public, travellers, and tourists are urged to exercise caution during the forecast period. Authorities have been directed to stay alert and take preventive measures to address any emergencies.
