PMD forecasts rain, windstorms across Pakistan from May 27 to 31

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted windstorms and rain-thunderstorm activity in upper and central parts of the country from the night of May 27 to May 31, with intermittent breaks.

A westerly wave is expected to enter the upper regions on May 28, intensifying the weather pattern.

According to the PMD, moist currents are continuously affecting these regions and will combine with the incoming system to produce thunderstorms, isolated heavy rainfall, and hail in several areas. These include Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and numerous districts across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Abbottabad, and Murree are expected to be impacted. In southern parts of Punjab and Balochistan—including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Zhob—light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are forecast from the evening of May 27 to May 30.

The PMD has cautioned that strong winds, dust storms, hailstorms, and lightning may damage weak structures such as electric poles, trees, solar panels, and vehicles, especially in Islamabad and nearby areas. Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities in light of the weather conditions.

Travelers, tourists, and the general public have been urged to take precautionary measures during the active weather period. Relevant authorities have been directed to stay alert and take preventive steps to avoid any emergencies.
