Young man dies by suicide after family’s opposition to marriage

A 22-year-old man died by suicide after jumping into the Indus River from Kotri Bridge following a family dispute over his desire to marry a woman with three children.

According to police, Farid Khan was riding on a motorcycle with his father when he suddenly stopped near the bridge and leapt into the river. Initial investigations revealed that Farid had repeatedly requested his family’s approval for the marriage, leading to an argument shortly before the incident.

Rescue teams launched a search operation that night, but poor visibility hampered efforts. His body was recovered the next morning and shifted to Civil Hospital Jamshoro for legal formalities before being handed to the family.

Farid’s father confirmed that his son had been adamant about the marriage despite repeated objections. Police have ruled out foul play, but further inquiry is underway.
