Sindh strike called over deaths of nationalist workers during police clash

The Jeay Sindh Rehbar Committee has announced a province-wide shutter-down strike on May 25 to protest the deaths of two nationalist workers during a clash with police in Moro, Naushero Feroze on May 20.

Committee leaders Riaz Ali Chandio, Niaz Kalani, Nawaz Khan Zaunr, and Fateh Channa visited Laghari-Bijarani village to meet the families of Zahid Laghari and Irfan Laghari. Zahid died from gunshot wounds during the clash, while Irfan passed away at Liaquat University Hospital on May 23. Chandio accused police of refusing to hand over Irfan’s body and detaining mourners who had gathered to collect it.

The families of the deceased have demanded that an FIR be registered against Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, and senior police officials. The committee also called for the release of those arrested during and after the incident and an end to police raids on the homes of nationalist workers.

Chandio condemned the alleged mishandling of the situation, saying the state’s actions had turned peaceful protests into violent confrontations. He recalled that nationalist groups had peacefully opposed canal projects and corporate farming for months without incident.
