Armed men loot medicines worth Rs33 million in Jamshoro

JAMSHORO: A truck carrying life-saving medicines worth over Rs33 million was looted near Khanpur Mor along the M-9 Motorway in the jurisdiction of Jamshoro Police Station, police confirmed on Monday.

According to details, four armed men intercepted the vehicle en route from Karachi to Faisalabad and Rawalpindi, held the driver and cleaner hostage, and fled with the truck and its valuable pharmaceutical cargo.

Hours later, the looted truck was found abandoned in the Hatri area of Hyderabad, but the consignment of medicines was missing. A first information report (FIR) has been registered on the complaint of the truck driver, and an investigation has been launched.

Authorities say they are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence from the site. Police believe a well-organised criminal group may be behind the heist.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the security of pharmaceutical and essential goods supply chains, especially along key transport routes like the M-9 Motorway.

This is not the first time such a robbery has occurred in the region. Last year, a truck transporting sacrificial goats worth Rs1.5 million for Eidul Azha was similarly looted near Karachi’s Kamran Chowrangi. In that case, four armed robbers on motorcycles held the driver hostage, stole the livestock and fled with his mobile phone and cash.

The latest incident has once again highlighted growing threats to logistics and the need for tighter coordination between motorway police, local law enforcement, and transport companies to prevent such crimes.
