Punjab and other parts brace for more rain after deadly storm

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms for several regions, including Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and parts of Punjab and Balochistan. This follows a deadly storm on Saturday that claimed at least 14 lives and injured 51 in Punjab.

The PMD also reported that Jacobabad reached the highest temperature at 50°C, while other regions like Sibi, Dadu, and several cities in Sindh recorded temperatures nearing 47°C. Meanwhile, the capital and surrounding areas are experiencing temperatures of 35°C, with high humidity levels making it feel even hotter.

The storm caused severe disruptions, including power outages and property damage. Rawalpindi declared a rain emergency, while in Lahore, the storm uprooted trees and damaged structures at Gaddafi Stadium, affecting a scheduled match between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. Similar conditions were reported in KP, where hailstorms and flooding affected local infrastructure and crops.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is providing compensation to the affected families, and rescue operations continue across impacted regions.
