ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Hussein Mullick, wife of jailed Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, has strongly condemned the escalating repression in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), accusing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of punishing innocent Kashmiris to deflect attention from his recent political defeat.
In a video statement released on Sunday, Mushaal said that Modi is venting his frustration over electoral setbacks by launching a new wave of oppression against defenseless Kashmiri civilians.
“Thousands have been imprisoned, and the government is coercing forced confessions from them,” she said, adding that the crackdown is targeting every sector of Kashmiri society.
“Businesses are being destroyed, students are being expelled from Indian universities, their degrees revoked, and dissenting voices on social media are being systematically silenced,” she alleged.
Mushaal also accused the BJP-led government of executing a deliberate plan of demographic engineering in Kashmir. “The regime’s aim is to depopulate the valley of its native residents and replace them with settlers,” she said, describing it as a continuation of long-standing colonial tactics.
“Instead of introspection and accountability following the defeat, Modi has chosen to escalate violence in Kashmir. This is collective punishment against an entire people,” she asserted.
Mushaal urged Kashmiris around the world to unify and intensify their struggle for the right to self-determination as enshrined in international law. She called on the global community to take urgent notice of what she described as systematic human rights violations and efforts to alter Kashmir’s demographic makeup.
