Rickshaw driver robbed by police dies in truck collision on M-9 motorway

HYDERABAD: A rickshaw driver was fatally injured after being robbed by police and then struck by a speeding truck on the M-9 motorway near Loni Kot.

Kashif, 30, son of Waris Abbasi, and his cousin Zohaib Ali, son of Nadeem Abbasi, both from Faisalabad, were pushing their rickshaw on foot after running out of petrol when the truck hit them. Kashif died at the scene, while Zohaib sustained injuries.

Zohaib told police that they had been traveling from Karachi to Hyderabad when police at a toll plaza confiscated Rs8,000 and a mobile phone from them. After the robbery, they continued but the rickshaw ran out of fuel near the New Baran Bridge at Loni Kot. The accident happened as they pushed the vehicle.

The victims earned their livelihood by driving rickshaws and were left with nothing after the police robbery.

SSP Jamshoro Zafar Siddiq Jhanga took notice of the case following the viral circulation of Zohaib’s video statement on social media.
