Trump offers mediation to resolve Kashmir dispute after ceasefire

US President Donald Trump has offered to mediate the Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India, a day after announcing a ceasefire between the two countries. Trump, who had previously suggested mediation during his first term, reiterated his willingness to work with both nations to achieve a resolution for the region, a longstanding issue between them.

While India has previously rejected such offers, Trump’s proposal challenges India’s narrative of Kashmir being a domestic issue. On his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that he was ready to help both countries find a solution, emphasizing his role in facilitating the recent ceasefire. The US also plans to increase trade substantially with both nations, with Pakistan welcoming the offer and expressing its commitment to peace and cooperation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded Trump’s leadership and expressed hope for strengthening Pakistan-US ties.

Meanwhile, the US is pushing for discussions on key issues like Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty at a neutral venue, a move that India has yet to respond to officially.
