Residents near border show resilience after missile strikes

LAHORE: Despite missile strikes from India that hit areas near the Pakistani border, residents in frontline villages remained steadfast and unyielding. The night of the attack saw missiles land a few hundred feet from villagers, yet they stood their ground, determined to face the adversity head-on.

Advocate Sheikh Tamoir, a local leader and farmer, described the terrifying moments as four missiles struck the Markaz Taiba complex in Muridke, which houses educational institutions, a mosque, a hospital, and living quarters. The first missile shook the ground like an earthquake, sending villagers into a frenzy. Subsequent strikes hit the mosque, an academy, and the living quarters, knocking out security measures at the gates.

In response, the local community rallied together, rescuing women from the Markaz and relocating them to safer areas. Instead of fleeing, the residents showed remarkable solidarity by gathering at the Markaz, a place of education and healthcare, to offer support. Sheikh Tamoir emphasized that despite the attack, no evidence of terrorist activities or training had ever been observed at the site.
