ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a stark warning about the escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, stating that the risk of a nuclear conflict is real and cannot be ignored. Following India’s recent strikes on Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which Islamabad described as a “blatant act of war,” Asif emphasized that the region could be on the brink of a strategic standoff. The attacks, which targeted six Pakistani locations, resulted in the martyrdom of 31 civilians and injuries to 57 others.
Asif pointed out that India’s internal crisis is fueling external aggression, exacerbating the threat to regional peace and security. He confirmed that a meeting of Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) could be convened at any time. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also addressed the nation, highlighting Pakistan’s strong military response, which included downing five Indian fighter jets and destroying several Indian military posts. The situation remains highly volatile, with both nations poised for further military engagement.
