27 clinics established across Pakistan for free treatment of diabetic children

KARACHI: A network of 27 specialized clinics has been set up nationwide, including seven in Sindh and nine in Punjab, to provide free treatment for children suffering from type 1 diabetes. These clinics are part of the “Changing Diabetes in Children” program, which operates in 32 countries and aims to expand to 40 clinics across Pakistan by 2025. Over 24,000 children in the country are affected by type 1 diabetes, with 3,300 children already enrolled in the program, receiving essential care such as insulin, glucometers, pen devices, needles, and testing strips at no cost. Erum Ghafoor, Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation, highlighted the importance of timely insulin treatment and urged parents to avoid unhealthy foods that could exacerbate the condition.
