X accessible in Pakistan without VPN after year-long ban

Users report access to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday without the need for a VPN, marking a shift after a year-long ban.

ISLAMABAD: Social media platform X became accessible to users in Pakistan on Wednesday without the need for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The platform had been blocked by authorities since February 17, 2024, following protests over allegations of vote rigging in the general election.

Several users took to the platform to share their success in accessing X without using a VPN, marking a significant change after more than a year of restricted access. The lifting of the ban remains unconfirmed by authorities, but the development has raised questions about the platform’s status in Pakistan.
