Purchase of luxury vehicles for bureaucracy challenged in Supreme Court

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Member of the Provincial Assembly Muhammad Farooq has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) ruling that allowed the purchase of 138 double-cabin vehicles for Assistant Commissioners. The appeal, filed by advocate Usman Farooq, contests the SHC’s decision on March 28, which dismissed a petition challenging the purchase.

The Sindh government has approved the procurement of these vehicles at an estimated cost of Rs2 billion, funded by public taxes. Farooq argues that in light of the country’s inflation rate exceeding 28%, public funds should be utilized for citizens’ welfare, and the purchase of luxury vehicles for the bureaucracy is an inappropriate use of taxpayer money.
