SWAT: Two people were gunned down on Tuesday allegedly in the name of ‘honour’ in Najigram area of Swat’s Barikot Tehsil, police said.
According to Ghaligay Police Station House Officer (SHO) Ali Bacha, the incident took place in Najigram area of Barikot Tehsil of Swat district.
According to the Ghaligay Police SHO, the incident occurred when a man identified as Kamran, son of Khan Gul, a resident of Ghaligay, currently Maniyar, was caught in the house of Sher Hassan, son of Omar Gul and overpowered him in his daughter-in-law’s room and later shot him dead while he was escaping.
In the meanwhile, the brother of the accused, Muhammad Gul, also died from the firing, the police officer added.
“During the firing, the homeowner’s brother was also fatally wounded, succumbing to his injuries in the hospital”, the SHO informed.
On the other hand, the accused’s daughter-in-law, Msmt (S), whose husband Shahid has been living abroad in Saudi Arabia for the past three years, escaped after taking the opportunity. The police reached the spot and took the accused Sher Hassan into custody, while the bodies of the victims were shifted to the hospital for post-mortem.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
According to a resident of the area, the deceased was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with a woman from the household.
ENROLLMENT CAMPAIGN KICKED OFF
An enrollment campaign has been launched at Government Girls Primary School Barikot in Swat district.
Swat District Education Officer (Female) Hafsa Gul inaugurated the campaign by filling out the forms of the girls and distributing free books and bags to them. Sub-Divisional Education Officer Barikot Ishrat Begum, other female teachers and mothers of the children were also present on the occasion.
On this occasion, female students of different schools delivered speeches and presented educational sketches regarding education.
Addressing the ceremony, DEO Hafsa Gul said that education is the fundamental right of every child as nations are built through education. She said that education is very important for girls as well as boys and the provincial government is taking practical steps in this regard.
“In Swat, we have been given a target of 29,000 children and we are trying to make this campaign a success”, she vowed.
