One dead, six injured in Karachi’s gas cylinder explosion

KARACHI: Tragedy struck as a gas cylinder explosion claimed the life of one individual and left six others wounded in Karachi’s New Challi area, on Tuesday.

The blast, originating from a shop in the generator market, ignited a blaze, scattering goods onto the street with its sheer force.

Rescue teams promptly responded to the scene, confirming one fatality and six injuries. Unfortunately, such incidents involving gas cylinders, whether in commercial establishments or households, are not uncommon due to factors like substandard cylinders and lapses in adhering to safety protocols during refills.

This incident recalls a similar tragedy in December 2023, when three people lost their lives and 17 sustained injuries following a gas cylinder blast that led to the collapse of a two-storey building in Karachi’s Machar Colony. The blast occurred during a gas transfer operation at a cylinder shop as a vehicle loaded with cylinders arrived for gas supply.
