IHC grants Sher Afzal Marwat protective bail in Kasur case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday barred Punjab police from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Sher Afzal Marwat and granted him protective bail for two weeks in a case registered against him in Kasur.

IHC’s Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri ordered Marwat to deposit bail bonds of Rs10,000 each besides appearing in the trial court in two weeks. When the judge asked Marwat whether there was any area left in the country in which an FIR was not registered against him, the latter replied, “No sir.”

When the court asked him about the case registered against him in Kasur, the petitioner said he had gone to the city to address a rally, but the police lodged an FIR against him.

In the plea, Marwat claimed Punjab police booked him in a case for a public gathering in Kasur. The MNA moved IHC for protective bail in the case.

Sher Afzal Marwat is facing a number of cases after the ouster of the PTI government.

Earlier in the month, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) extended interim bail of the PTI leader in a separate case.

Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah heard the case.

Marwat in his plea said that 23 FIRs have been registered in the province against him on political grounds and sought abrogation of the cases against him.
