Teen girl sustains critical burns in Bahawalnagar acid attack

BAHAWALNAGAR: An 18-year-old girl sustained critical burns when a youth doused her with acid here in Bahawalnagar on Saturday.

The police said the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital and the FIR of the case was registered. The police said the incident took place in village Dhani Malapar in the limits of Donga Bonga Police when the girl, identified as Sidra Bibi was returning to home after attending Mehfil-e-Naat at a local seminary.

As the girl reached near, the accused hiding in crop fields, attacked her with acid. The family claimed the accused used to harass the girl. He sprinkled the acid on her face due to which she sustained critical burns.

After the incident, the victim was admitted to the hospital. The police have launched hunt to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took notice of the acid attack and ordered the concerned authorities to immediately arrest the accused. Maryam Nawaz sought a report from Punjab inspector general of police about the incident.
