KP’s digital work space excludes key departments

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s digital work space, which aims to digitize government processes, has excluded two key departments: the Department of Administration and the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

The five processes that have been selected for immediate digitization are all dependent on the participation of these two departments. For example, the approval of summaries, notes for the Chief Secretary, and the issuance of notifications all require the approval of the Department of Administration.

This is not the first time that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has attempted to digitize government processes. In the past, there have been efforts to digitize development projects, transfers and appointments, and the summary system. However, these efforts have not been successful.

The new digital work space initiative is being supported by the World Bank. The government has directed the Department of Finance, the Department of IT and Information Technology, the Higher Education Department, and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs to digitize their processes as soon as possible.

However, without the participation of the Department of Administration and the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, it is unclear how successful the initiative will be.
