KARACHI: Pakistan Customs officials on Wednesday foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign currency and recovered more than 46,605 Saudi Riyals at Jinnah International Airport here.
According to spokesman for Customs, the Airport Collectorate of Customs at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) Karachi intercepted a passenger identified as Muhammad Ahmed Siddiq. During search, the customs officials recovered 46,605 Saudi Riyal hidden under the clothes.
The spokesperson informed that besides Saudi Riyals, Pakistani currency worth more than Rs3 million was also recovered from him.
He was traveling to Medina, Saudi Arabia. Legal action was initiated against the passenger under Customs Act and further investigations were underway.
It is pertinent to mention that foreign currencies worth more than Rs17 million had been seized from the passengers traveling out of Pakistan in the running month.
