President accepts resignation of GB governor

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Saturday accepted the resignation of Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon.

In a tweet uploaded on Saturday, President Arif Alvi said that he has accepted the resignation of Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon.

The President also nominated Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Speaker Syed Amjad Ali as the acting governor till the appointment of the new governor.

The post of GB governor GB fell vacant on April 19, 2022 after Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon had resigned from the office. Since his resignation the region is functioning without a governor. Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon had been appointed governor Gilgit-Baltistan on September 27 2018. Maqpoon was the Gilgit-Baltistan chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The senior PTI leader from G-B will become the sixth governor of the northern administrative territory.

The post was vacated after Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan had resigned as GB governor earlier in September, following a controversy triggered by an alleged leaked video.
