Punjab University VC indicted in Dr. Maria defamation case

LAHORE: A local court in Lahore on Saturday indicted Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Akhter in the defamation case filed by former director of the PU Confucius Center Dr. Maria Isabel Maldonado Garcia.

Dr Maria is a Spanish national who approached the court against the expulsion from PU Confucius Center on alleged charges of corruption levelled by PU VC Dr Niaz and later circulated the termination letter to all the universities throughout the country.

Additional Sessions Judge Jahanzeb Chattha heard the case and indicted the PU VC in the defamation case.

PU VC Prof Niaz appeared before the court, though his counsel had already submitted the surety bonds for the bail.

The District and Sessions Court Lahore adjourned the case hearing till January 29 after summoning the witnesses in the case.
