32 suspected cases of Omicron variant reported in Balochistan

Balochistan has reported at least 32 suspected cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, Geo News reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, Kalat District Health Officer (DHO) Nasrullah Lango confirmed the number of suspected cases to the news outlet and said that the samples taken from the suspected patients have been sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad for confirmation.

All the suspected patients, including a woman who recently delivered a baby, are from Kalat and none of them has a travel history, the report quoted the DHO as saying.

As per the report, the DHO said that the condition of the said patients is stable and they have been quarantined at their homes.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo expressed concerns over the suspected presence of the Omicron variant in Kalat and sought a report from the health department.

Earlier, the country had reported one confirmed and another suspected case of the new variant of coronavirus.

On December 13, the Aga Khan University Hospital had confirmed it had detected the country’s first-ever case of the Omicron variant in a patient, who had no travel history, through gene-sequencing.

According to media reports, the second case of the Omicron variant of coronavirus was reported from Karachi.
