Shamim allegations: PM Khan says PML-N digging its own grave

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday told the leaders of the allied parties of the ruling PTI that the PML-N leadership was ‘digging its own grave’ by getting involved with the case where ex-chief justice of Gilgit-Baltistan apex court Rana Shamim leveled allegations against former chief justice of Pakistan, Justice (retd) Saqib Nisar.

The prime minister’s comments came during a meeting with the PTI-led government’s coalition partners, where the matter came under discussion, the sources said.

The allied parties leaders opined that the PML-N leaders could be served with a contempt of court notice for its statements over the matter, the sources added.

The sources said that the prime minister said the matter is in the court and the court will do whatever seemed fit, the sources added.

Media reports said that Shamim had alleged Nisar of issuing instructions to keep former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz in jail till the general elections in 2018, a claim which ex-chief justice completely denies.

PM, core group discuss Rana Shamim allegations

Meanwhile, chairing a special meeting of the party’s core group, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the PML-N has its own history of attacking the courts. He said that the PML-N has always attacked state institutions and the political mafia can go to any extent to secure its interests.

The meeting of government spokespersons also discussed the issue of affidavit of former Gilgit-Baltistan judge. the PM was briefed that the purpose of the affidavit looked to be aimed at making the cases against Sharif family controversial and the PML-N is behind it. Barrister Ali Zafar said that Rana Shamim may face contempt of court as his allegations may have affected the court proceedings.
