ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) will organise a grand function on Monday to celebrate the festival of Diwali at the historic Terri Temple in Karak village of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The body will host a large number of pilgrims from Sindh and Balochistan. The event will also be attended by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and other dignitaries.
Diwali — also known as Deepavali — is the annual Festival of Lights. It is held on the darkest night of the Hindu lunar calendar and ushers in new beginnings just before the arrival of the new moon.
Diwali is also observed by Sikhs, Jains and Newar Buddhists around the world.
The council has urged the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to provide boarding and lodging facilities to nearly 1,500 pilgrims in Hassan Abdal arriving from Sindh and Balochistan to participate in the annual fair.
The pilgrims from different parts of the country have already started arriving at Hassan Abdal from where they will move to the destination where the celebration is scheduled to take place.
