India fans condemn after animated Superman shows Kashmir as disputed region

A video showing Superman and Wonder Woman resolving the Kashmir dispute is doing the rounds online in India — and for reasons unrelated to the creativity, or the plot.

Released Tuesday, DC Comics’ latest animated Superman movie — Injustice — sparked a controversy after it showed the lead protagonists referring to Kashmir as a disputed region and shedding light on the rights abuses in the Muslim-majority state.

The animated film shows Superman and Wonder Woman invading Kashmir. Superman who describes Kashmir as a disputed territory destroys all the weapons of the Indian troops stationed there to bring peace, ZeeNews reported.

The protagonist further says there is no place for weapons and an army in the region.

While there is no apparent mention of India or Pakistan, the viewers in India are clearly unhappy with the producers at Warner Bros.

“Why are they so specific about Kashmir? First they refer to an imaginary place like m’gota, but the next moment they mention Kashmir. Its better to keep quiet about complex geopolitical affairs that they don’t know anything about […]” said a Twitter user.

“What a mess.. Superman couldn’t save afganistan.. Went home defeated,” lamented another.
