Qureshi, Iran FM discuss Afghanistan situation

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke to his Iran counterpart Sunday to discuss the evolving situation in Afghanistan whose new Taliban rulers gear up to announce a new, all-inclusive government to govern the country ravaged by two decades of war.

During their conversation, Qureshi and Hossein Amirabdollahian agreed to continue mutual consultation over the security situation in Afghanistan.

The two ministers also exchanged views in detail about the latest developments in Kabul and also agreed on holding a virtual conference of Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries in the upcoming days.

Qureshi said Pakistan attached significant importance to its relations with Afghanistan, while Amirabdollahian lauded Pakistan’s “concerted efforts to evolve a coordinated strategy in the backdrop of the situation in Afghanistan.”

Amirabdollahian also thanked Qureshi for his recent visit to Iran.
