Kartarpur corridor reopens for pilgrims, visitors

LAHORE: Kartarpur Sahib Corridor reopened gates for pilgrims on Sunday after a four-week hiatus to stop the spread of the Indian variant of Covid-19 in Pakistan, and visitors started visiting the religious site, authorities said.

The authorities notified the reopening of the site asking the pilgrims to follow the coronavirus guidelines.

Punjab Rangers chief inspected the site in a helicopter. He also reviewed the security arrangements and consulted the administration.

The corridor was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2019, days before the 550th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Baba Guru Nanak.

The corridor introduced visa-free access from India to the town of Kartarpur, home to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur that marks the site where Baba Guru Nanak died.

The Sikh minority in India has long sought easier access to the temple.
