NAB summons Punjab minister in sugar probe

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Punjab Irrigation Minister Mohsin Leghari on May 4 in connection with the probe into last year’s sugar scam.

He has been directed to appear before the Rawalpindi office of the dirty money watchdog. Reports suggest a combined investigation team (CIT) of the agency will quiz the ruling MP.

Leghari has also been directed to bring the record pertaining to the subsidy awarded on sugar between 2018 and 2019. Furthermore, the documentation of the export permit was also sought.

The agency is investigating the sugar scam under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010, and has also summoned Punjab Industries Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal and Food Minister Samiullah Chaudhry on the day.
