Three vessels hit in Strait of Hormuz incidents

DOHA: Three commercial vessels were struck in separate incidents in and around the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, including a Qatari liquefied natural gas carrier that caught fire after what Qatar said was a drone strike.

The Qatari LNG tanker Al Rekayyat was hit overnight, triggering a blaze in its engine room. Qatar blamed Iran for the attack and said the crew were safe and being evacuated. Maritime security sources briefed on the incident told Reuters the fire raised the risk of an explosion on board.

In a recorded radio call reviewed by Reuters, the captain of the Al Rekayyat reported the strike and damage to the vessel.
