SALU panel recommends Rs4.58bn budget for FY2026-27

SUKKUR: Shah Abdul Latif University’s Finance and Planning Committee has recommended a Rs4.58 billion budget for the 2026-27 financial year for approval by the syndicate, according to a university statement issued on Sunday.
The proposal was taken up at the committee’s 45th meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Yousuf Khushk. During the session, Director Finance Qazi Nizamuddin said the projected deficit for 2026-27 had been reduced to Rs384.239 million from Rs886.654 million in 2025-26, marking a drop of more than 56 per cent. He attributed the improvement to financial reforms, austerity steps and stronger revenue generation.
Nizamuddin told the meeting that in 2025-26 the university handled Rs4,105 million in grants and revenues against expenditures of Rs4,104 million. The committee also recommended separate budgets for the university’s Ghotki and Shahdadkot campuses, its study centres and Law College Naushero Feroze.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Khushk said the push for financial discipline was intended to improve how public funds were used across the institution.
The university statement said HEC Islamabad nominee Samer Sibtain and Sindh HEC nominee Feroz Mahar welcomed the transparent budgeting exercise and offered suggestions to further strengthen fiscal sustainability.
