GB election body sets July 12 re-poll in two Diamer constituencies

GILGIT: The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has fixed July 12 for re-polling at selected polling stations in two Diamer constituencies after the region’s highest court suspended results in multiple seats.

According to a notification issued on Monday by the GB Election Commission Secretariat, voting will be held again at one polling station in GBA-15 and at eight polling stations in GBA-17. The commission said polling would continue from 8am to 5pm without a break.

The notification also instructed the Diamer district returning officer and the returning officers of both constituencies to complete the necessary arrangements in time and ensure that the exercise is conducted in a free and fair manner.

Earlier, the chief judge had put on hold the election result of independent candidate Dilpazeer Khan from GBA-15 Diamer-I, who later joined the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP), as well as the result of PPP candidate Mohammad Naseem from GBA-17 Diamer-III. The court had also suspended the result of PPP candidate Fida Muhammad Nashad from GBA-9 Skardu after the general elections in which the PPP emerged ahead and formed the government.
