852 candidates cleared for 45 AJK election race
The AJK Election Commission has issued the final candidate list for the 2026 assembly elections, with 852 contenders in 45 constituencies. More than 320 aspirants withdrew, while 126 candidates will contest 12 refugee seats.

ISLAMABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has published the final list of candidates for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections, confirming that 852 candidates will contest 45 constituencies after more than 320 aspirants withdrew from the race.
The commission also said 24 registered political parties have been allotted election symbols. It added that symbols for independent candidates will be issued later. According to the election commission, 126 candidates will contest the 12 refugee constituencies.
District-wise figures released with the final list show Kotli has the biggest field, with 135 candidates contesting six constituencies. Muzaffarabad follows with 126 candidates for five seats, while another 126 candidates are in the field across seven constituencies in Poonch and Sudhanoti.
The commission said 98 candidates will contest four constituencies in Mirpur, 83 will run for four seats in Bagh and Haveli, and 63 are contesting three constituencies in Bhimber. It added that 51 candidates are in the race for two constituencies in Neelum, while 34 candidates will contest from Jhelum Valley.
