Contest opens for three AJK refugee assembly seats
Fifty-eight candidates have filed nomination papers for three AJK refugee constituencies linked to Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Election officials say scrutiny has begun, with four women also entering the contest.

ISLAMABAD: The election process for three refugee constituencies of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly has moved forward, with 58 candidates submitting nomination papers for seats representing Kashmiri refugees living in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and the wider Rawalpindi Division.
According to election officials, the highest number of nominations was received in LA-43 (Valley-IV), where 23 candidates entered the race. LA-44 (Valley-V) drew 16 candidates, while 19 candidates filed papers for Jammu-VI.
The field includes nominees from major political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami, in addition to independent contenders. Several aspirants have also submitted nomination papers in more than one constituency.
Election officials said four women candidates are also in the running and will compete directly against male candidates, marking an increase in female participation in the contest. The scrutiny of nomination papers has begun under the supervision of the relevant returning officers.
