RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Post has moved to curb employees’ social media activity, declaring that the sharing of unauthorised information and commentary on departmental matters without prior approval amounts to a breach of office discipline.
According to a circular issued by the organisation’s headquarters on June 22, 2026, several postal employees had been posting unauthorised material online and commenting on internal affairs in violation of the Civil Servants Conduct Rules, 2026. The Directorate General directed all postmaster generals to closely watch the social media activity of staff under their supervision and to begin immediate departmental proceedings against personnel involved in unauthorised posts, objectionable content or political activity.
The circular also raised other disciplinary concerns within the department. It expressed concern over employees visiting the directorate general without a no-objection certificate, remaining absent without authorisation and failing to maintain punctuality. All postmaster generals were instructed to enforce attendance rules, punctuality and office discipline in full, while officers found negligent in carrying out these directions would also face action.
Separately, Pakistan Post Director General Maqsood Ahmed rejected reports suggesting the department was being privatised or that employees would be laid off. In a statement, he described such claims as fabricated and baseless.
He said Pakistan Post had launched a comprehensive reform programme aimed at improving the department’s financial stability and expanding digital services for customers.
