Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi took oath in Karachi as acting chief justice of the Federal Constitutional Court. He will serve during the absence of Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan, who is in Russia for an international legal conference.

Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi sworn in as acting FCC chief justice

KARACHI: Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi was sworn in on Tuesday as acting chief justice of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC), assuming the role during the absence of Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan.

Justice Rizvi is the senior puisne judge of the FCC. The oath was administered by FCC Justice Mohammad Karim Khan Agha at a ceremony held at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry.

The event was attended by acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Munib Akhtar, Supreme Court Justice Mohammad Shafi Siddiqui, and officials of both the FCC and the Supreme Court. The ceremony was described in the court statement as simple and dignified.

According to an FCC statement, Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan is currently in St Petersburg, Russia, on an official visit to attend an international legal conference focused on judicial cooperation, exchange of legal expertise, and discussion on contemporary constitutional and legal issues. The statement also said a courthouse for the FCC has recently been established within the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry.
