Justice Munib Akhtar takes oath as acting CJP
Justice Munib Akhtar has taken oath as acting chief justice of Pakistan at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry. The Supreme Court said he will serve in the role while Chief Justice Yahya Afridi remains abroad.

KARACHI: Justice Munib Akhtar was sworn in as the acting chief justice of Pakistan at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Supreme Court.
The oath was administered by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui in what the Supreme Court described as a simple and dignified ceremony. Justice Akhtar is the senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court said incumbent Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi is currently out of the country. It added that Justice Akhtar will perform the duties of the chief justice for the duration of Justice Afridi’s stay abroad.
According to the statement, the ceremony was attended by judges of the Supreme Court as well as the Federal Constitutional Court.
