4th Muharram: Over 31,000 Punjab Police deployed to secure processions, majalis
Punjab Police deployed 31,000 personnel across Punjab for the 4th day of Muharramul Haram, securing 278 mourning processions and 3,907 majalis. Lahore saw 17 processions and 412 majalis under strict Section 144 enforcement.

LAHORE: Punjab Police ensured strict security arrangements on the fourth day of Muharramul Haram, with more than 31,000 officers and personnel deployed across the province, including Lahore, to perform security duties for processions and majalis.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, over 31,000 police officers and personnel were engaged in security duties across Lahore and other parts of the province on the fourth of Muharramul Haram. A total of 278 mourning processions and 3,907 majalis were held across Punjab, while in Lahore alone, 17 processions were taken out and 412 majalis were conducted in connection with the occasion. More than 23,000 community volunteers also assisted law enforcement agencies in ensuring smooth security arrangements for processions and religious gatherings.

Inspector General Punjab Abdul Kareem said that security would remain on high alert across the province throughout the first ten days of Muharramul Haram. He reiterated that strict implementation of Section 144 imposed by the Government of Punjab would be ensured.
He further stated that aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hate material, and any provocative activity would not be tolerated. He added that no procession or majlis would be allowed at any place other than approved routes and designated venues.
The IG Punjab said that comprehensive monitoring of all activities was being carried out through cameras of the Safe Cities Authority in coordination with district administrations. He added that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU and other field formations were actively deployed for Muharram security duties.
He further stressed that strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act would be ensured, and action would be taken against individuals involved in spreading hate material or inciting content on social media. He said control rooms established in all districts were linked with the Central Control Room at the Central Police Office and were maintaining round-the-clock coordination.
Police conduct extensive search operations for peaceful Muharram
Meanwhile, Punjab Police continued proactive search operations across the province to ensure a peaceful Muharramul Haram and to counter criminal and suspicious elements.
According to the spokesperson, 426 search operations were conducted in the last 24 hours across Punjab, during which 13,524 suspicious individuals were questioned. As a result, 32 suspicious persons were arrested and 24 cases were registered.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that indiscriminate operations against anti-state, miscreant and criminal elements would continue throughout Muharram to maintain law and order. He directed all field officers to further enhance the effectiveness of search operations and maintain strict vigilance over suspicious activities to ensure the peaceful conduct of processions and majalis.
