The spokesperson added that more than 17,000 community volunteers also assisted law enforcement agencies in maintaining security arrangements at religious gatherings across the province.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Abdul Kareem said security would remain on high alert during the first ten days of Muharramul Haram, with strict enforcement of Section 144 imposed by the Government of Punjab.

He said aerial firing, display of weapons, hate material, and provocative content were strictly prohibited. He added that processions and majalis would only be allowed on designated routes and venues, while all activities were being closely monitored through Safe Cities Authority surveillance cameras in coordination with district administrations.

The IG further said that CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU, and other field units had been deployed for Muharram security duties. He directed officers to ensure strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act and take firm action against individuals spreading hate content on social media.

He said district-level control rooms, linked with the Central Police Office control room, were operating round the clock to monitor the security situation across the province.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem expressed deep sorrow over the Chakwal incident and offered condolences to the bereaved family of minor Hania, describing the tragedy as deeply distressing for both the affected family and the institution.

He said the matter had been taken “extremely seriously” and that an impartial investigation was underway. He added that the charge sheet would be completed and submitted to the court soon.

The IG said a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), headed by an SSP-level officer, had been constituted to ensure a transparent probe and uncover the facts. He added that relevant government departments and police units were fully cooperating with the JIT to ensure accountability.

Abdul Kareem said the police institution remained fully accountable and would ensure justice through transparent investigations and, if guilt was proven, strict punishment in accordance with the law.

He also noted that he had recently visited the families of two police martyrs in Dera Ghazi Khan who sacrificed their lives in a terrorism-related incident, paying tribute to their service in upholding law and order.

Additional IG CCD Sohail Zafar Chattha also termed the Chakwal incident deeply tragic, saying he personally visited the victim’s family, offered condolences, and laid flowers on minor Hania’s grave while reciting Fateha.

He assured the family of a transparent and impartial investigation, adding that the family had expressed full confidence in the CCD’s probe. He further stated that the CCD immediately suspended and arrested the accused after the incident and, on the family’s request, registered a case under Section 302 against its own officer.
