Under the phased development plan, seven major hospitals with a combined capacity of 1,519 beds will be constructed in the Nawaz Sharif Medical City.

The approvals were granted during a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to review public-private partnership (PPP) projects across Punjab.

Expressing satisfaction over the Punjab Public-Private Partnership Authority becoming fully operational after 19 years, the Chief Minister appreciated Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Finance Secretary Mujahid Sherdil, and PPP Authority CEO Dr Zeeshan Hanif for their efforts in revitalising the framework.

The meeting reviewed the scope of public-private partnerships in 110 proposed development projects across the province. It also discussed, for the first time, a proposal to establish student hostels under the PPP model.

Projects related to roads, trucking terminals, bus stands, model bazaars, and food streets were also reviewed in detail.

The meeting was informed that four PPP projects had become operational, feasibility studies for 27 projects had been completed, while work on several others was progressing at pace.

The briefing also highlighted four major Chief Minister initiatives included in the PPP portfolio, including an FMD production plant in the Nawaz Sharif Medical District, the Time Travel Park Lahore project, shrimp farming initiatives, and the Mines-to-Metal Chiniot project.

The Chief Minister said the journey of development in Punjab would continue under all circumstances, stressing that the objective of the PPP model was to ensure active private-sector participation in the development process.

She reiterated that all development projects under the public-private partnership framework would be completed in a timely and effective manner.

CM Welcomes Fuel Price Cut, Orders Immediate Reduction in Transport Fares

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz welcomed the federal government’s decision to reduce petroleum prices and directed authorities to ensure an immediate reduction in passenger transport and goods carriage fares across Punjab.

Expressing gratitude to the public for their patience during challenging circumstances, she said the benefit of the fuel price cut must be directly passed on to citizens without delay.

The Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and his team for reducing petroleum prices, stating that the move reflected the government’s commitment to public relief following an improvement in the regional situation.

She termed the prevention of an energy crisis amid regional challenges a significant achievement of the Prime Minister. She also noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had played a decisive role during difficult times in averting both energy and economic crises.

She further directed that transport and freight fares across Punjab be immediately adjusted in line with the reduction in fuel prices, adding that the decline should also translate into lower prices of essential commodities to ensure tangible relief for the public.
